We mentioned visualization earlier, and now it’s time to go into a bit more depth. What is visualization? It’s the art (yes, it’s technically an art) of being able to picture your success. If you sit back, close your eyes, and imagine yourself meeting your goal, then you’ll do it. It’s as simple as that.
Exercises That Help You Visualize Your Goal
Basically, visualization involves focusing on a positive mental picture. For example, if you want to run a marathon, you can picture yourself at the finish line or see yourself receiving a medal. These mental pictures are very powerful and can make the difference between meeting your goal and not accomplishing it at all. This is why you need to make sure to keep your visualizations positive.
How Does It Work?
Your brain is very powerful. In order for these visualization exercises to work, your brain needs to essentially “view” you meet your goals. The more you do this, the more the neurons in your brain will connect. Your brain will then take over and make sure that you stay on the path to that goal.
The issue is that in order for this visualization to work, you must do this exercise often. The more it’s repeated, the more your brain will register it positively, and the more likely it is that you’ll complete your goals. You need to keep going, and no matter what stage you’re at in the goal-meeting process, continue visualizing the positive end result.
How Do You Visualize Things?
Here’s how it works. It’s a little like meditating, only instead of clearing your mind, you’re filling it with positive images. Start by sitting in a dark room. Close your eyes and take a deep breath. Relax. Then, imagine yourself meeting your goal. Pick one goal at a time here.
Think about the following questions:
- What does it look like when you meet your goal?
- How do you feel?
- Where are you?
- Who’s with you?
Repeat this as often as you need to in order to visualization to work.
