Day 16: Be Proud of Your Progress

How far have you gone when setting goals in the past? Were you able to successfully meet them? Or did you fall short of your goals? Did you give up halfway through?

Even though you might have given up, you still need to proud of the progress that you made. Why? Because this progress is important. It’s proof that you set a goal and took the steps forward to accomplish it, even if you fell short. You need to celebrate those small victories.

What Happened in the Past?

When you last made progress towards a goal, how did it go? Did you fall short? If you did, are you able to examine why? Now is the time to take that deep dive and come up with the reasons why you did not meet that goal. Maybe you didn’t know then what you know now. Maybe you didn’t break down your goal into measurable steps. Or maybe you did make some progress and managed to come up with a few small lifestyle changes. Any progress is good.

However, if you’re new to goal setting and haven’t really tried to do this in the past, then you need to keep one thing in mind – any small amount of progress needs to be celebrated. You need to realize that tiny victories matter.

Don’t Be Afraid to Write Things Down

Now is the time to pull out your journal and begin to write things down. Start with your past victories. Sure, you may not have met that final goal, but you celebrated a few wins. What were they? How did you do it? Can you replicate that success? Or how would you do things differently the next time?

You can take this information and use it to learn how to move forward with your new goals. However, if you don’t have any of these learning experiences to include, then visualize (we’ll get to this later) how you would do it. Write that down.

Make Those Plans

Your dive into past progress just provided you with some good tips on how to move forward. You can use this knowledge to expand on the plans that you’ve made. You no doubt understand now, more than ever, how you can actually meet your end goal. If not, then go back over what you experience or visualized. There are clues there that can help a good deal. Use them to make plans.
